John Guthrie
I started by playing Clarinet in Grade School, switched to Alto Sax in Junior High and realized that it was difficult to be in a rock band that did covers in the 70’s playing a reed instrument.
My sister Elaine knew how to play guitar and my brother Shawn & I would go to her house to take lessons. Shawn took up drums and joined a band. My Dad told me that once I could play 3 songs, he would by me an Electric Guitar and Amplifier… Mission accomplished! I got my Sears Guitar and Amp!!!
I joined the band and ended up playing Rhythm Guitar. I played with that band for a couple of gigs and the lead guitarist moved out of town. My brother and I formed a band called ‘American Flight’, which lasted for a few years. When the members of the band started getting married, I started a new band called ‘Flight’ and performed around the western side of Washington State.
When I got married, I stopped playing for about a year and started a new band called ‘Feedback’. This group was made of mainly of co-workers/friends. We played continuously playing for about 4 years.
I got out of the rock band genre thereafter and performed at piano bars, open mics and church sponsored plays.
When I first met Missy, I thought ‘Whoa… She is Gorgeous… She is an awesome performer… What a great voice!’ We got married lived in Lacey, Washington for 2 years. I ended up coming out of a near decade of retirement to help her start MissyG after moving to the Tri-Cities area of Washington.
I have switched from playing rhythm guitar to bass guitar, back to rhythm guitar and added keyboards and mandolin and backing vocals to the mix. I am hoping to add many more instruments as I possibly can in the next few months.
I am a bit prejudice… But I think we sound Spectacular!!!
